Smarty Privacy & Data Use Summary
Last updated: December 19, 2025
Our Promise
Smarty is designed to help children learn while protecting their privacy.
When a child uses Smarty without creating an account, Smarty is built to work without saving chat histories or collecting personal information.
Our goal is simple: provide helpful learning support while minimizing data use.
Who This Summary Applies To
This summary describes how Smarty works when a child uses Smarty without an account.
Some future features may require creating a parent-approved account. If that happens, we will clearly explain what changes and provide parents with appropriate choices and controls.
What Happens When Your Child Uses Smarty
When your child asks a question:
-
The message is processed in real time to generate a response
-
Smarty shows the answer
-
The message is not saved as a chat history
There is no inbox, transcript, or conversation log for children to return to later.
Each interaction is treated as a standalone learning moment.
Information Smarty Collects
Smarty collects limited, non-content information needed to operate and improve reliability, such as:
-
Whether a request succeeded or failed
-
The general feature used (for example, “homework help”)
-
Anonymous usage counts
This information does not include:
-
What your child typed
-
What Smarty replied
-
Any identifying details about your child
What Smarty Does Not Collect
Smarty is designed not to collect or keep:
-
Chat conversations or message histories
-
Questions or answers
-
Names, email addresses, or usernames
-
Location data
-
Voice recordings
-
Uploaded documents or images
-
Advertising identifiers or tracking for ads
Children are not asked to share personal details to use Smarty without an account.
Children’s Privacy & COPPA
Smarty follows the core principles of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):
-
We minimize data collection
-
We avoid storing personal information
-
We do not use children’s conversations for advertising, profiling, or personalization
Smarty is intentionally designed so there is nothing to sell, share, or misuse.
Third-Party AI Technology
Smarty uses trusted AI technology to generate answers.
-
Messages are sent only to generate an immediate response
-
Smarty does not retain those messages as chat histories
-
Responses are not used to build user profiles
-
Children’s messages and answers are not used to train or improve AI models
Third-party service providers may temporarily process requests to operate the service, consistent with privacy and security requirements.
Security & Safeguards
Smarty uses industry-standard security practices to protect information while it is being processed. Access to systems is restricted, and service providers are contractually required to protect data and use it only to operate Smarty.
Accounts & Future Features
Some future features may require creating an account and parental consent.
If that happens:
-
We will clearly explain what changes
-
Parents will be informed before any additional data is collected
-
Consent will be required where applicable
